Marková Cecílie 1911–1998
Untitled
tempera, paper, mount, frame, glass, 60 × 43 cm, signed. LD CM
Cecilia Marková's painting and drawing media work has evolved since the late 1930s.
the 1920s developed in the circle of the spiritualist circle in her native Kyjov.
It is based on automatic drawing created without preparation and without conscious
intention. The drawings and paintings take the form of fanciful landscapes and plants whose
tendrils extend organically and vegetatively into the surrounding space.
The plants emerge from the darkness or empty space and radiate a strange
intangible energy that is enhanced by a specific luminosity that
comes from the depth of the image. Since the 1960s, Marková's work has been classified as
in the context of naive, media art and art brut and has been regularly
exhibited at important Czech and international exhibitions and is
represented in private and institutional collections.
