Miloš Urbásek's painting and graphic art belong to the context of Czech
abstract, geometric and neo-constructivist
post-war art from the wider circle of the so-called New Sensibility. In the first
half of the 1960s, when Urbásek turned to structural
monochromatic work, he became interested in the possibilities of working with text
and writing and their optical qualities. Lettrist work of the second half of the
of the 1960s, based mainly on the independence of individual
graphemes, letters or numerals, which the artist further expanded and enlarged over a defined area of paper or canvas until they became a visual
fragment still retaining the original information. Works created in series,
combine and vary different parts of the character segments, which when assembled into
into a single whole creates a dynamic composition of distinctive visual qualities.
Miloš Urbásek's works are represented in the collections of Czech
and international, mainly German institutions, and has received several
international awards.
