Jaroslav Ježek, the most important Czech
designer of figurative and utilitarian porcelain in the 1960s, became most famous for his numerous designs of Brussels-style animals, which set the tone in most Czech households, and the Elka mocha service, designed specifically for the World Expo '58 in Brussels. He also won a Gold Medal for it. This success apparently caused the Ex set to be approved for production in 1959, which
was produced in limited numbers and served as a luxury gift rather than a utilitarian drinks set.
