Architekton V., 2004

bronze, 1/4, 60 × 21 × 18 cm, signed engraved underneath E.O.1/4
Eduard Ovčáček, author of visual poetry, graphic designer, painter, sculptor, photographer, educator, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1957-1963 Arts in Bratislava. In the early 1960s he was one of the initiators of the unofficial Bratislava exhibitions Confrontation I-III (1961-1963). In the 1960s he became a member of the Concretists Club. Since the 1970s when he became a signatory of Charter 77, he was unable to speak publicly and exhibit in official galleries. He worked in Ostrava all his life, where he taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts. His work is represented in important private and institutional collections. Eduard Ovčáček used a variety of media to process the characters in his paintings and experimental techniques. A separate chapter of his work consisted of from the 1960s onwards, wooden objects that were created in accordance with with the geometrically oriented work of the Concretist Club. Objects, called Architektons, stood on the border between sculpture and architectural element. They consisted of repeating geometric segments assembled in a rhythmic spatial composition in the shape of a column. The order of the individual of segments and their layering, which regularly deviated from the central axis, caused the impression of movement or op-art effect of an otherwise static work. Exhibited: Borders of Geometry, 2009, Gallery Z, Gallery GiK, Bratislava, SK.
