Fuka Vladimír 1926–1977

Vladimír Fuka was a painter, illustrator and typographer whose work is characterized by simple lines, a sense of creating spare and sensitive colour relationships, for the contrast between light and shadow. He dealt with the symbol of the labyrinth in which we can get lost, but from which we can still find a way through. Fuka made his name primarily through his illustrations, but his painting, which is still awaiting full appreciation. He was one of the strong generation that emerged after World War II and matured in the 1960s. 1960s. He continued the Czech interwar poetism, developed the legacy of such of such figures as František Tichý. At the end of the 1950s, naturally from figurative work to abstract expression. In the following decade, he travelled extensively. He participated in the preparation of the Czechoslovak exposition World Expo 58 in Brussels and in 1967 he also participated in the the Czechoslovak pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal. In 1967 then emigrated to the United States of America together with his wife - the famous photographer Eva Fuková and his daughter Irena. In the inventory of his works listed on p. 247.
