R. Fila, a distinctive figure in Slovak post-war art, solitary in his ideas and within his generation, in contrast to his peers found his basis in the work of the second surrealist generation. His painting became objectless in 1962, when he used a rough woven cloth as a structure making up the picture surface. “He managed to approach structural painting as a lyrical and aesthetic phenomenon.” Jiří Valoch.
