The vase was made as part of the Allegory series depicting four European powers, Austria-Hungary, France, Germany and Russia. By its rendering the vases are treated as porcelain jewellery. The porcelain factory, most often referred to as “Amphora“, was established in 1892 by Alfred Stellmacher, later its partners were E. Stellmacher and R. Kessel. The most celebrated production comes from the Art Nouveau period. The company received several important prizes and awards, e.g., in 1893 a State Prize from the world exhibition in Chicago or a gold medal from Paris in 1889. Lit.: Richard L.
